We build entry doors in every style found in Ventura County — craftsman with flat or raised panels and square sticking, contemporary with clean flush profiles and minimal hardware lines, traditional colonial with symmetrical raised panels, and custom arched or pivot doors for homes with non-standard entries. Every build starts with a sketch and a site visit, not a catalog selection.
All joinery is mortise-and-tenon. The rails and stiles are cut to dimension, tenons are machined to spec, and the assembly is glued and pegged. This is how solid wood doors have been built for centuries, and it's still the most structurally sound method available. We do not use pocket screws, biscuits, or manufactured wood blanks as a starting point.
Wood species are selected based on your home's climate exposure and the finish you want. Oak and Douglas fir are excellent for paint-grade work and take stain cleanly. Walnut and mahogany produce rich, dark tones when stained. For coastal homes in Ventura, Oxnard, and Port Hueneme — where marine air and UV exposure are serious factors — we often recommend teak, ipe, or mahogany because their natural oils resist moisture penetration without requiring constant maintenance. We'll talk through the right choice for your specific site during the consultation.
Hardware and glass options are handled as part of the design process. We can prep for any lockset, deadbolt, handleset, or pivot hinge system. If you want glass — sidelites, a transom, divided-light panels within the door itself, or decorative leaded glass — we design the door around the glass package from the start so the framing is sized and reinforced correctly. Exterior finish is applied in multiple coats, with sanding between coats, using products rated for California's coastal and inland climate conditions.

The Build Process
From the first call to the installed door, here's how every entry door project unfolds.
Consultation
We visit your home, measure the opening precisely, and discuss your style goals and wood preferences. We'll look at the surrounding trim, your home's architecture, and any hardware or glass you have in mind.
Design
We sketch the door design, confirm dimensions, and finalize the wood species and finish. You'll see exactly what we're building before any lumber is cut.
Build
Your door is built from raw lumber in our shop using mortise-and-tenon joinery and precision milling. Glass inserts and hardware prep are incorporated at this stage.
Finish
Stain, paint, or clear-coat applied in multiple coats with sanding between each. Exterior doors receive UV-resistant topcoats appropriate for your home's exposure.
Install
We deliver and install the door ourselves, adjust hardware, fit weatherstripping and threshold, and walk you through maintenance. We don't leave until it operates perfectly.
