We build single and double barn door configurations for openings from narrow hallway passages to wide open-plan transitions. The slab itself can be plank-style (horizontal or vertical boards, spaced or tight), panel-style with raised or flat fields, or frame-and-fill with glass inserts. Strap configurations — Z-brace, X-brace, or clean face — are selected based on the door's size and the structural forces at play, not just aesthetics.
Structurally, we apply the same joinery standards we use for entry doors. A barn door spans a wide opening and bears its own weight on a track; if the construction isn't right, it racks, twists, and binds on the hardware within a few seasons. We use mortise-and-tenon joinery throughout, with mechanical fasteners at stress points, and we size the lumber for the door's dimensions. A 48-inch-wide door needs different rail dimensions than a 24-inch door — we engineer for that.
For custom widths common in open-plan renovations — 60, 72, even 84 inches — double door configurations that bypass each other are often the right solution. We build bypasses with matching profiles so the pair reads as a unified surface when closed. Pocket door slabs are available for installations where wall depth permits a full pocket — we build the slab and coordinate with the pocket hardware manufacturer for correct weight ratings.
Hardware coordination is part of the scope. We work with soft-close systems, anti-jump floor guides, and flush pulls that sit recessed in the door face. We specify hardware rated for the actual weight of the door — something mass-market barn door kits frequently get wrong — and we install it as part of the project rather than handing you a bag of parts at the end.

The Build Process
From consultation to the installed sliding door, here's how every barn door project unfolds.
Consultation
We visit your home, measure the opening and the wall space on either side, and discuss style goals and wood preferences. We assess whether a single, double, or bypass configuration is right for the space.
Design
We sketch the door design, confirm dimensions, and finalize the wood species, finish, and hardware package. You'll see the full system — slab and hardware — before anything is built.
Build
Your door is built from raw lumber in our shop using mortise-and-tenon joinery and precision milling. Hardware attachment points are reinforced during the build, not as an afterthought.
Finish
Stain, paint, or clear-coat applied in multiple coats with sanding between each. Finish is applied before hardware is mounted so the entire surface is covered evenly.
Install
We mount the track, hang the door, set the guides, and adjust travel so the door moves smoothly and closes flush. We walk you through the hardware and leave you with maintenance instructions.
