I've spent 20 years in the trade — starting in rough framing and never leaving the door side of it. I build every door myself, from raw lumber to final hang, for homeowners throughout Ventura County. No crews, no middlemen, no warehouse doors dressed up as custom work. Just wood, joinery, and a craftsman who stands behind what he builds.
There's something about a door that gets under your skin — the weight of it, the grain, the way a good one sounds when it closes. I never left that part of the trade.
I started in construction out of necessity — framing, rough carpentry, whatever came through. But somewhere along the way I got put on a door crew, and that was it. I noticed that homeowners kept calling back six months after install: the door was swelling, the finish peeling, it never fit right to begin with. Pre-made doors are built to a warehouse standard, not your opening. I got tired of watching that happen, so I started building them from scratch.
Wood is honest that way. It tells you when it's stressed. It shows you when the grain wasn't selected right. I work in oak, mahogany, walnut, and teak — each species has its own personality, its own best use. A teak door on a coastal property in Oxnard will outlast everything else in that salt air. A walnut door on a well-protected entry in Ojai gets more beautiful every year. I pick the species for the door, not the other way around.

From First Call to Final Hang
Consultation
I come to your home, measure the opening, look at the architecture, and talk through design and budget. You get a clear number before any wood is ordered.
Fabrication
I select and mill the lumber in my shop, cut all joinery by hand, and build the door to your exact opening — not a standard size.
Finishing
Multi-step finish appropriate to the door's exposure — UV-resistant topcoats for exterior, stain or paint for interior. Sanded between every coat.
Installation
I hang the door, set all hardware and weather-stripping, and don't leave until the door operates perfectly. Care instructions included.
